What is your favourite country in the motorhome?
The impossible question, but some places keep pulling us back. Albania won the whole family over: the coast, the prices, the welcome, all of it exceeded what we expected. Croatia has been a favourite since our first Kon-Tiki summer there in 2018. And at home, the north of Scotland gives the Continent a genuine run for its money. If you forced a single answer out of each of us you would get different countries, which is probably the best recommendation for touring there is.
What would you recommend in Scotland?
The North Coast 500 is the headline and it earns it: we have driven it more than once, including in winter and in the electric campervan, and it delivers every time. If you have the days, carry on: we took the ferry from the mainland over to Orkney in summer 2025 and hopped out to Papa Westray and Westray, and that leg turned out to be one of the trips we talk about most. Where would you recommend for a Germany road trip in a campervan?
Germany is one of the easiest countries in Europe for a camper because of the Stellplatz network: dedicated, cheap motorhome stopovers in almost every town, often walking distance from the centre. We have enjoyed the cities more than anything on our German legs, Berlin especially, and Cologne most recently on Steve and Harry's father and son trip. Pick a region, string the towns together and let the Stellplatze do the accommodation planning for you.
Have you been to Albania?
Yes, and we rave about it to anyone who asks. It sits in that sweet spot the Med lost a couple of decades ago: genuinely beautiful coastline, low prices, and people who seem pleased to see you. It is not the polished, infrastructure everywhere experience of France or Germany, and that is exactly the appeal. If the Balkans are on your maybe list, promote them.
Did Steve really drive to the Sahara in an electric campervan?
He did: a solo run in our VW ID Buzz from the UK all the way down through Spain and Morocco to the edge of the Sahara, and back. It answered the question everyone asks about electric touring, which is whether you can do a genuinely big trip on charging infrastructure that gets thinner as you go. You can, with planning.
